Record in Iceland at Westway LAB 2022
Hrefna Helgadóttir will present the Record in Iceland project at Westway LAB this April!
RECORD IN ICELAND is a reimbursement scheme offered by Iceland’s Ministry of Culture and Business Affairs that gives anyone who records their music in Iceland a 25% refund on all recording costs incurred in Iceland. All you need to do is submit all costs related to the recording including travel, accommodation, wages and even post-production like mix and master and the refund will go through in the following quarter.
It’s that easy.
LATER EDIT:
As a result of this presentation, Record in Iceland got coverage in the Portuguese Observer under the heading: “The Observer was at the ninth edition of the music festival designed for professionals in the field. In addition to the concerts, there was talk of exporting to Spain, recording in Iceland and subtitles on YouTube”
Further on Record in Iceland the article reads:
Another panel, this one broadcast by videoconference, presented the Record in Iceland project, through which the Icelandic Government reimburses up to 25% of expenses of artists who choose the territory to record music. A curiosity, explained to the Observer by the speaker, Hrefna Helgadóttir, was that in Iceland there is a Ministry of Culture and Business — in the same government office, culture and business hand in hand, which in continental Europe would be thorny.
“After last year's elections, Culture gained autonomy and left the Ministry of Education. Tourism, innovation and the arts came together in the Ministry of Culture”, explained Hrefna Helgadóttir. “In Iceland, professionals have long argued that music has to be taken seriously, as an industry. It is not a hobby, it generates money, it creates jobs.”
